Listening To Your Skin

While the title of this post may seem simple enough listening to your skin is something that takes a little practice. When I first started practicing yoga years ago I decided to take private lessons so I could get a more personal instruction. One of the things my  instructor taught me was listening to my body. While this concept seemed easy it took me some time to get it. We would talk about food and how your body tells you what it needs and parts of the body that may need extra attention. This practice comes from being still and quiet, really listening. Meditating can help you tremendously with this. Just like my instructor had taught me through yoga we can apply this same technique to our skincare. While you may have a great skincare routine down or not know the first thing about skincare this will be beneficial to you. I will share in a later post about building a good skincare regimen. In the meantime let’s practice listening to what your skin needs because it can change. This is why sometimes products that once worked great for you are not so great now or it could be your skin is asking for something extra to be added into the routine. There are many things that can change how your skin is behaving such as climate, environment, sleep, hydration, diet, alcohol, sun, etc. Even if you are excellent at self care your skin can need some extra T.L.C. Maybe you’re experiencing a colder winter than usual where you live and your skin is feeling tight and dry this doesn’t always mean throw out your moisturizer that has always worked for you. Instead try to sleep with a humidifier or add a sleeping mask into your routine a few nights a week for extra moisture. As I’m writing this my skin feels tight because I spent a lot of time outside today and it’s ridiculously cold here already. I’m aware and I hear my skin so I will add an extra couple steps into my routine tonight so I wake up with plump, hydrated, and happy skin. If I ignore my skin I would probably wake up with red flakey dry skin. Every night after I wash my face I look at my skin to see what it needs and I really listen to it, does it look stressed, tired, dry, or in need of exfoliation. Some nights my skin says, “Im good!” so I just follow through with my regular regimen. This is why we listen so we don’t add things when they are not needed as well. This is some of the best skincare advice I could offer to someone to just stop and listen, be mindful, and kind to your skin. It honestly tells you everything it needs. If products don’t work for you be sure to look at what’s in them because you can learn something from that as well. While this may seem tedious I assure you with practice it is now something that takes just a few moments of my time every night and my skin thanks me for listening.

Feel free to message me with any questions or skincare concerns.

Lots of love,

Sherry

Skincare Series: My Top 3 Moisturizers

This will be my last post in this skincare series as I’m working on the best of 2018. I will post that one after the holiday. I will have other posts until then though. Hope you enjoyed these.

Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream

Last winter no matter how much I moisturized I couldn’t beat the severe weather and the dryness and tightness it was causing my skin. This Fresh moisturizer was my saving grave. It is thick but not greasy and gives your face a great protective layer without breaking you out. It has a slight rose scent that dissipates quickly though. Give this one a try to boost moisture in the cold months.

Sephora $40.00 for 1.6 oz

Dr. Jart+ Water Drop Hydrating Moisturizer

I could of easily put Dr. Jart for all three of these. I’m sure you all know how obsessed I am with his products. I love this formula that kinda burts into water when pressed onto the skin. It really is like a water drop. It is lightweight and absorbs quickly but keeps you moisturized.  Leaves no sticky or greasy residue behind just brightened and hydrated skin. A little of this goes along way. I also love the Dr Jart’s water fuse hydro gel moisturizer as well. I honestly think I love the convenience of the tube on this one. The water fuse is a gel but a little heavier than the water drop, it is great at nighttime.

Sephora $36.00 for 3.3 oz

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream

I actually don’t even keep this one on my moisturizer shelf it’s in my primer drawer because it makes for the most glowing skin when applied before makeup. Regardless of how you use this one you will get the same gorgeous dewy skin. This one is a heavier cream it is beautiful for mature skin as it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It keeps your skin plump looking and amazingly moisturized!

Sephora $100.00 for 1.7 oz

Skincare Series: My Top 3 Serums

Farmacy Honeymoon Glow AHA Resurfacing Night Serum

This is a newer serum I have added to my skincare collection but fell in love with it quickly. I’m a big fan of Farmacy and their products and this one was no exception. A multitasking serum to exfoliate, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, minimize pores, and hydrate your skin while you sleep. Wake up with amazing Honeymoon Glowing skin!

Sephora $58.00 for 1 oz

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Re.Pair Serum

Of course this is on the list! I have seen this serum transform the appearance of others skin. If you have acne or scarring this serum can help. It is wonderful for people with sensitive skin and have redness as it calms the skin and doesn’t irritate it. It truly helps soothe and repair the skin. It is a miracle in a bottle that will make foundation optional for you.

Sephora $46.00 for 1 oz

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Serum

I contaplated putting this one in my top 3 because it can be hard to get the U.S. and I knew the cicapair serum would be on here. I would be lying if this wasn’t included though, seeing as I just threw my empty bottle of it out. This serum is made to moisturize your skin, repair, and nourish. It really helps hydrate dry sensitive skin and doesn’t irritate. The whole ceramidin line is actually lovely. The ceramidin serum helps protect your skin making it perfect for the cold months.

Style Korean $43.20 for 1.35 oz

Tip In this series I post my favorites and what I use the most. Remember skincare is personal and everyone has different skin make sure you use products that meet your specific skincare needs.

Skincare Series: My Top 3 Essences

Fresh Black Tea Kombucha Facial Treatment Essence

This is my favorite essence for improving the texture of my skin. It helps protect your skin from pollution. When I use this my skin is much more even and hydrated. I don’t think I could ever be without this. It plumps the skin and is perfection in a bottle.

Sephora $68.00 for 5 oz

AmorePacific Vintage Single Extract Essence

This was the first essence I ever used properly. I had a sample of it and was hooked. When I saw the price I wanted to hate it but I had already fallen in love. I get less breakouts when I use this essence and it keeps my skin looking more clear and firm.  You can find smaller bottles of this in sets or get a sample to try it out for yourself.

Sephora $145.00 for 4.05 oz

Laneige Water Bank Essence

If you have dry skin this essence will help you skin feel moisturized and hydrated longer throughout the day. Though it helps with dry skin it is suitable for all skin types. I love this essence for the colder months for it has a creamer texture and keeps your skin looking plump.

Sephora $36.00 for 2 oz

Tip Press essence into your skin rather than rubbing it around. Let your skin dry before applying your serum.

Skincare Series: My Top 3 Toners

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Liquid Moisturizing Toner

This is the perfect toner for dry skin but is beneficial to all skin types. It is thick and creamy and leaves skin moisturized. It helps with skin texture and is your best friend in the cold months. Remember a little of this product goes a long way.

Sephora $39.00 for 5.07 oz

Fresh Rose Floral Toner

I love how hydrated and even my skin looks after this toner. It has a light rose scent and gives your skin a beautiful glow.  It can be used throughout the day to refresh skin and as a setting spray. It is good for all skin types and is alcohol free.

Sephora $40.00 for 8.5 oz

Lush Breath Of Fresh Air

This is another great alcohol free toner for your skin. This is my go to when my skin is irritated or I’m having a break out. It has a wonderful calming effect on the skin and is a good choice for combination skin. It has great ingredients and smells lovely.

Lush $22.95 for 8.4 oz

Tip When picking a toner stay away from ones that contain alcohol. These will irritate your skin and cause dryness. Moisture and hydration are your best friends (even if you are oily).
